Against Logic

Last week a church member shared a powerful personal encounter with God. His mother, an old lady who is more 70 years old, suffered from a cancerous tumour for a long time. However despite being a young Christian, his mother lived every day with a simple but tremendous faith that God would heal her. And God just healed her, by removing the cancerous tumour, completely.

How many believe that this could really happen? Logically, the chances of a cancerous tumour to disappear from the body completely are very low. Logically, the family should spend their time preparing for the ailing old woman for her surely deteriorating health, perhaps getting a wheelchair because she will need that soon, perhaps even getting her will done rather than just spending time praying. Logically, the ailing woman should grieve and worry for her health instead of rejoicing and praising God.

Logic is what human comprehend, either from education or from learned experience. Many a times logic tells the painful reality, logic blows away every single hope. However the good news is, God works against logic, and when we cannot explain the wonderful work of God with logic, we call that ‘miracle’.

In the midst of despair and anxiety, I hope by sharing this true story, it reminds us the presence of God and His mighty power. Maybe what He needs is a repentance, maybe it is a prayer, maybe it is a simple faith, to perform a miracle. Maybe He is just waiting for us to knock the door.

“You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples – Psalm 77:14”
